Two days under the open sky: how a 23-year-old mother with two children found shelter thanks to the Mother and Child Home

When the police received a call about a young woman with two small children out on the street, it was not just another routine case. It was a story that reminds us: the social protection system works only when there are people willing to catch someone at the very bottom.

Police officers reached out to the Christian Mission “New Life” with an urgent request: a young woman with two small children was on the street alone. Immediate help was needed.

Kseniia is 23 years old. Her daughters are Eva (4 years old) and Arina (1 year and 4 months old). The three of them were left without a roof, without resources, and without support. Their landlord evicted the family because they could no longer pay for housing. That is how the mother and her children ended up on the street — without shelter, without belongings, without any support at all. They spent two days under the open sky before law enforcement officers noticed them.

Kseniia’s story

Behind the brief facts of Kseniia’s biography lies a difficult path that she has had to walk almost entirely on her own.

Kseniia comes from the village of Sadove in Mykolaiv region. When she was just six months old, she was adopted. She has a brother who, according to her, used to live with her, but his current whereabouts are unknown.

Kseniia studied at the Odesa Military Academy. At the age of 19, she became a mother — her older daughter Eva was born. The child’s father does not take part in raising her. Later, Kseniia worked in a military unit, where she met the man who became the father of her younger daughter, Arina. But while Kseniia was still in the maternity hospital, she received the news that he had been killed.

That is all Kseniia shared about her personal life. But even that is enough to understand: before us is a young woman who has faced trials that life does not prepare anyone for.

Today, Kseniia and her daughters are no longer alone. The doors of the Mother and Child Home of the Christian Mission “New Life” were opened to them with care — a program created precisely for such situations: when a mother with children is left without support, without housing, without resources.

The family received safe shelter, food, hygiene supplies, children’s clothing, as well as social, psychological, and spiritual support.

The Mother and Child Home is not just a temporary shelter. It is a structured program in which women receive the resources and time they need to stabilize their lives and secure a достойное future for their children.

Kseniia’s story is not an exception. In the context of war and economic instability, the number of women finding themselves in critical circumstances is growing. Without family support, without a financial safety cushion, without access to social programs, mothers with small children become one of the most vulnerable groups.

That is why the existence of programs like the Mother and Child Home is not simply charity — it is a real, working mechanism of social protection that saves lives.

Every story like this becomes possible thanks to your support. Every family that receives help is the result of your trust and your contribution.

We thank everyone who supports the ministry of the Christian Mission “New Life” and helps us be a light in the darkest moments.
